Seeing Red: The Hoover & Strong Red Gold Range

14K Pink is a popular alloy, but a little misrepresented. It is actually red, so we're changing the name to 14K Red. Similarly the old 10K Pink will now be known as 10K Red. Same metals, different name. To complete the range we've introduced both an 18K and a 22K Red.

Hoover & Strong red gold alloys are the reddest and the best on the market, bar none. The make-up of these alloys is such that you can't get a redder alloy in their karat range. They give the perfect antique look… and the highest contrast when paired with other colors.

18K Red alloys from other manufacturers can be brittle and hard, but our 18K red is more malleable than others and does not have that annoying tendency to crack. For optimum softening, directly quench into a suitable medium from annealing temperatures.

For the best red color, it is necessary to have a high copper content. This is especially true for 14K Red, but it can sometimes hinder filling and detail reproduction when investment casting. Hoover & Strong has introduced a new silicon deoxidized 14K Red known as "14K Red D". This has excellent flow characteristics for maximum fill and minimum porosity. For those customers who prefer, we will continue to supply the standard silicon-free 14K Red casting grain.
