Environmental Responsibility
A Dirty Business
We are in a business where all of our products come from the Earth, and the jewelry industry, in particular, relies heavily upon mining companies to generate source materials for their products. The negative impacts of mining have forced people and businesses alike to take a long, hard look at where their products come from, how they are made, and to what extent they are impacting the Earth, its lands and its people.
Recycled And Beautiful

HARMONY Metals™
All precious metals at Hoover & Strong including gold, platinum, palladium, sterling silver, fine silver and copper are 100% recycled. When it is necessary to obtain metals from other sources, we buy metal from other earth-friendly refineries that, like us, only use recycled metal.
HARMONY Diamonds™
Search our database of over 75,000 certified loose diamonds. All our diamonds are conflict-free and come from sources that are full participants in the Kimberley Process Certification System. This process, created to eliminate the flow of "conflict or blood diamonds", requires participating countries to tightly control the import and export of rough diamonds and to establish control systems over their private sectors that trade in rough diamonds.
Additionally, many of our certified diamonds come from the Canadian Arctic and fall under our HARMONY brand. These diamonds are mined, cut and polished in the Canadian North and are subject to strict standards set out by the Government of the Northwest Territories that protect the Arctic environment and the mine workers as well.
Known for their sparkle and clarity, Canadian diamonds are considered to be some of the most spectacular diamonds cut today and we are proud to offer them to you. Look for HARMONY Diamonds™ when visiting our web site and match them up with any of our HARMONY precious metal products to create beautiful, eco-friendly jewelry for your customers.
HARMONY Gems™
Sapphires, rubies and emeralds are now available. Go to the TruSeat® link on our web site to order your TruSeat® bands with ethically-sourced gemstones.
We believe in minimizing the environmental impacts of gemstone mining and we strongly advocate and support the non-profit organizations that are dedicated to increasing the responsible practices of gemstone miners. All of our gemstones come from a fair trade company that sources their stones from various mines in southern Africa or Australia.
SAPPHIRES - Our blue sapphires originate from the Van Dieman Mine or the Royal Kings Plain Mine in Australia. The Van Dieman Mine is the most ecologically advanced colored gemstone mine in the world. Mining techniques, gem separation, energy consumption, green–house gas emission, land reclamation and rare species protection, have all been carefully looked at and mitigation or restoration plans have been put into place. Our unheated pink and padparadscha sapphires come from the Nyala® Mine in southern Africa.
RUBIES - Our rubies also come from the Nyala® Mine. This mine is tending to critical problems in Africa by assisting with education, health care and housing issues. They support the only school in the area and are helping to refurbish a small local hospital in addition to working with international groups to acquire malaria and AIDS drugs. Our gem source also returns a percentage of wholesale value to development projects in Malawi.
EMERALDS - Our rich, green emeralds come from southern Africa mines, such as the Cobra™ Mine. These mining projects work under fair trade protocols and are currently involved in community development.
